Postgraduate Merit Based Scholarship


The Merit Based Scholarship program specifically looks to engage students and young scholars from all over the world with special emphasis on the periphery, or `global south`, with leading figures in economics, law and the humanities.

The IUC offers a 1 year LLM program in Comparative Law, Economics and Finance as well as a 2 year MSc. A number of renown intellectuals and scholars from around the world serve on the faculty and advisory board, including: Guido Calabresi (former Dean of the Yale School of Law), David Gerber (Chicago Kent School of Law), Josef Halevi (University of Sydney), Duncan Kennedy (Harvard Law School), Ugo Mattei (University of Torino & University of California, Hastings), Stefano Rodotà (coauthor of the European Charter of Fundamental Rights), Amartya Sen (Nobel Laureate), Gunther Teubner (Frankfurt School), Jan Toporowski (SOAS, University of London), Gustavo Zagrebelsky (Emeritus President of the Italian Constitutional Court).

Our Merit Based Scholarship students are from more than 40 different countries, spanning four continents, representative of a diverse range of disciplines and cultural backgrounds, with a focus on offering opportunities to students coming from social, economic, and/or political challenges, particularly students from former colonized territories (e.g., the global south) and other newer peripheries.

Modu Timblo Merit Based Scholarship


Merit Based Scholarship The donor wants a student's potential academic year who have made an economically disadvantaged and the difficulties attending LSE without funding will help.
The value of the scholarship is € 15,000 and will be awarded based on financial need only.
Eligibility

PhD Merit Based Scholarships in Management, Economics and Social Sciences


Each year CGS awards 10 to 12 Merit Based Scholarships to brilliant students (amongst the top 10% of their year) with a Master/Dipl. degree or close to dying their degree. These students will enter a all ears, intensive three-year program leading to a PhD (Dr. rer. pol). It is the expressed purpose of this intensive program to educate brilliant researchers and teachers who, after obtaining their degree, will mainly stay in academia.

Admissions
CGS admits up to 12 fellows a year. Merit Based Scholarships Students are admitted by the Board of CGS based on their grades, expertise and availability of a potential supervisor.

Eligibility
To be admitted,Merit Based Scholarships students must hold a Master’s Degree or a Diploma in a discipline relevant to the curriculum and research interests of CGS. Relevant disciplines are Economics, Management, Finance, Social/Political Sciences, Energy Economics/Policy, Econometrics/Statistics and related fields. Candidates must have a proven record of academic excellence and belong to the top 10% in their respective field.

Benefits
Fellows receive a monthly stipend of EUR 1.200 for three years. No tuition is charged. Following a thriving evaluation after the first year, fellowships will be extended for another two years. A full PhD Merit Based Scholarships program runs for three years. Extension of fellowships additional than this cycle is not possible. Fellowships are tax-free. Students will have a fully equipped office within the CGS department, full access to all libraries and other university institutions and bonus funds for participation in conferences, summer schools, etc.

Degrees
Students submit their doctoral thesis in German or English to the Department of Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Cologne. The degree awarded is a German `Dr. rer. pol`.

Academic Advisors
During the program, doctoral students are advised by a member of the CGS-faculty. Merit Based Scholarships Applicants are strongly advised to consult the list of faculty prior to their application to ensure potential supervision once accepted. Once accepted, students are questioned to find a supervisor no later than by the end of their first year of studies.

Merit Based Scholarships Ontario-China Research and Innovation

Ontario and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of the People’s Republic of China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote scientific, technological and industrial research and commercialization cooperation.

The two jurisdictions have committed $5 million each, for a total of $10 million over five years (2011-2015), to create the Ontario-China Research and Innovation Fund (OCRIF), which will support collaborative projects between researchers and innovative companies in Ontario and China.Ontario is now launching the first call for proposals under OCRIF. The Government of Ontario and MOST will jointly invest up to $1 million each to support strategic bilateral research collaborations for this call for proposals.
